
Thodupuzha: The key handover ceremony of a disability-friendly model home, built free of cost under the leadership of the Different Art Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, for Viju Paulose and his family was conducted by traveler and journalist Santosh George Kulangara. "New lives are created through hope. Through the light of hope ignited by Gopinath Muthukad, Viju and his family are given new possibilities," he said during the inauguration. He also remarked that Muthukad’s commitment to humanitarian efforts is not confined to one place but extends far and wide, as evidenced by the 14 disability-friendly homes which are planning to be established under his leadership across various districts. He emphasized that when individuals with strong intellect and determination step forward for change, society should stand by them and work together.
The event, held at Vazhithala, Thodupuzha, was attended by Prajesh Sen, film director, Shantigiri College Manager Fr. Paul Parekkattil, Principal Fr. Jose John, Vice Principal Fr. Shinto, Gopinath Muthukad, Executive Director, DAC and Sunilraj C.K, Manager, Magic Planet, among others. Those who played a crucial role in the construction, including Cherupushpam Jason’s son Sam Jason, engineer Anoop, and supporter Ousepachan, were honored with mementos and shawls in recognition of their selfless service. The event also witnessed the handover of a wheelchair, purchased through donations from DAC and Magic Planet employees, to Viju.
Viju Paulose and his family are the beneficiaries from Idukki district under this project, which aims to provide disability-friendly model homes for individuals with disabilities who do not own land or a house. Among numerous applications from the district, Viju was selected for the "Magik Homes" based on the high score obtained as per the criteria set by the Different Art Centre. The house features a ramp, doors wide enough for wheelchairs to pass through, and specially designed disability-friendly toilets, making it a truly inclusive living space.
