Thiruvananthapuram: Environment Day celebrations received a magical touch when Muhammad Ashkar, a differently abled artist from Different Art Centre (DAC), performed an illusion that captivated the audience. In a symbolic act highlighting environmental conservation, Ashkar produced a tree sapling from an apparently empty pot and presented it to Assistant Collector Dinesh Vishnoy, who then planted the sapling in the presence of schoolchildren.
The unique performance took place during an Environment Day programme jointly organised by Different Art Centre and the Kadinamkulam Unit of the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) at Vettuthura B.P.M. U.P. School. As part of the illusion, Ashkar poured water into an empty pot and, within moments, produced a Malabar Chestnut sapling, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Inaugurating the event, Assistant Collector Dinesh Vishnoy stressed the importance of nurturing a culture of coexistence with nature. He said that the younger generation must be encouraged to protect and preserve the environment and should regard environmental stewardship as a shared responsibility.

A vegetable and flower garden was also established on the school campus under the leadership of Different Art Centre. Promoting social inclusion, children from the Centre and the school worked together to create and maintain the garden.
The function was presided over by School Manager Fr. Jerome Fernandez. Prof. Shaji Varky, Convener of the Environment Day Theme Committee of KSSP Kazhakkoottam Area, delivered the Environment Day message. KSSP Kazhakkoottam Area Secretary Asokan, President Manikandan, Area Committee member George Victor, DAC Scientia teacher Mary Josepha Sherry, and Coordinator Chandni were among those present.
Vincent B.P. of the KSSP Kadinamkulam Unit welcomed the gathering, while School Staff Secretary Jubimol Alphonse proposed the vote of thanks.
The celebrations concluded with cultural performances by Sreekanth, Joshua, and Vipindev from Different Art Centre, adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion.
