Pathanamthitta: Leaving behind a decade of life in rented accommodation, Amal, who challenges mobility limitations, and his mother have stepped into a new life of security. The Magic Home project, an initiative by the Different Art Centre (DAC) to build free, disability-friendly homes for the landless and homeless differently-abled population in the state, has handed over its latest home in Pathanamthitta district.
The keys were handed over to Amal by renowned film director Blessy, writer Benyamin, and DAC Executive Director Gopinath Muthukad. Amal, a native of Poothankara, received this accessible home built on 3 cents of land generously donated by Mr. Saji K.B., also a native of Poothankara. The 600-square-foot model home is designed specifically to meet the needs of the differently-abled.
"This is a dream we thought would never come true, made possible only by the benevolence of Gopinath Muthukad," said Ramadevi, Amal’s mother. "The condition of my son, who was supposed to be the pillar of our family, had left us devastated. It is in this context that this home comes as a lifeline."
Speaking at the event, Director Blessy remarked that Gopinath Muthukad continues to create wonders through human goodness via the Magic Home housing project. Writer Benyamin added, "True charity is not giving what is in excess, but sharing what you have. In an era where people abandon their homes and leave the land, the Magic Home project stands out by building homes that bring people closer together."
The event was attended by Gandhibhavan Fairyland Chairman Saji Abraham, District Panchayat Member Beena Prabha, and Block Panchayat Member Suja Ashok. The construction was executed by G. Raghunathan Pillai under the leadership of Janaka Constructions.
