Malappuram: Visually impaired siblings Mehak and her younger brother can now sleep peacefully in their own home, filled with new hope. The disability-friendly house was built and gifted by the Different Art Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, under the leadership of magician Gopinath Muthukad. The family is overjoyed to have received the model home, along with 7.5 cents of land, as part of the Magic Home housing project.
In a ceremony held yesterday (Friday) at Narass Kunnu in Vallikkapatta, sports icon I.M. Vijayan handed over the keys of the house to Mehak, her brother Farhan, and their mother Haseena. Businessman and Quality Group International Chairman Shamsudheen Olakara, who provided the land, and Talent Architectural Consultant Chairman Muhammed Naseem, who led the construction, were felicitated with shawls and mementos by Muslim Youth League Kerala President Sayyid Munavvarali Ali Shihab Thangal.
The house documents were officially handed over to Haseena by Gopinath Muthukad. Local leaders including Koottilangadi Grama Panchayat President Abdul Majid and Panchayat member Bushra Bee also attended the function. The ceremony began with a captivating musical performance that touched the hearts of the attendees.
The event was further enriched by musical renditions from National Award winner Fathima Anshi, film and folk singer Athul Narukara, and Mehak herself.
Haseena and her children are the beneficiaries of the Magic Home project in Malappuram district, which offers free, disability-friendly housing to people with disabilities who do not own land or a home in Kerala. The family was selected from among many applicants in the district. Their new 650 sq. ft. house has been specially designed to suit the needs of the visually impaired.
As part of the initiative to build one model home in each district, 14 such houses are being constructed across Kerala. Homes in Kasaragod and Idukki districts have already been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries.
