Thiruvananthapuram: The International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) witnessed a unique moment as differently-abled individuals from Different Art Centre (DAC) came to enjoy the magic of cinema on the big screen. Their visit on Thursday became a distinct highlight of the festival, showcasing the inclusivity that cinema can foster.

As part of an initiative for social inclusion, the DAC team watched the children’s movie Kalam Standard 5B, screened in the viewing room facility organized by Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) and the Chalachitra Academy. The team left with applause and joy, making the event memorable for everyone involved. The special invitation for this screening was extended by the film’s producer, Tom Jacob.

Dr. Anil Nair, Intervention Director of the DAC, explained that this participation at IFFK aligns with their broader mission to emphasize the importance of social inclusion. He highlighted that DAC’s representation at an international film festival was a step towards fostering greater awareness about inclusivity among the public. The initiative builds on the efforts of DAC’s Executive Director, Gopinath Muthukad, who previously led the Inclusive India campaign, a nationwide journey to promote the value of social inclusion.

He also noted that the DAC has been actively training differently-abled children in filmmaking. This training has already resulted in the production of a 90-minute short film created under the leadership of these talented individuals. The event not only showcased the creative abilities of differently-abled individuals but also emphasized the role of platforms like IFFK in encouraging and celebrating inclusivity in all forms.
