Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Minister for Social Justice V.E. Abdul Gafoor lauded the Different Art Centre (DAC), describing it as the only institution in India functioning at international standards for the empowerment and development of differently abled individuals.

The Minister made these remarks while releasing Appuvinte Radio, a short film featuring Hari Govind, a differently abled student of DAC, in the lead role.

“I am delighted that this is the first institution of its kind I have visited after assuming office as the Minister for Social Justice. The operational excellence of the Different Art Centre is exemplary and truly commendable. It is a matter of pride not only for the institution but also for the State of Kerala,” the Minister said.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of differently abled persons, he added that the government maintains a compassionate and inclusive approach toward the sector and that issues affecting the community will continue to receive the highest priority.

The function was attended by DAC Chairman Dr. Jiji Thomson IAS, Executive Director Gopinath Muthukad, KSEB Legal Consultant S.H. Panchapakesan, Director Vidyachandra, Cinematographer Ranjith Shiva, Producer Sreepriya, actor Prince Thomas, and other distinguished guests.

As a gesture of appreciation, the Minister presented a radio to Hari Govind, who portrayed the central character in the film. The short film was produced by Hari Govind’s mother, Sreepriya.

Speaking at the event, Hari Govind’s father, Girish Shivodayam, noted that a portion of the stipend his son receives from the Different Art Centre was used to support the production expenses of the film, highlighting the institution’s meaningful role in nurturing talent and encouraging creative expression among differently abled individuals.
